Amazon.com Product Description
Combining the convenience of a tilting touch screen with the practicality of a slide out full QWERTY keyboard, the HTC Tilt 2 smartphone from AT&T keeps you connected with friends, business partners and world events with its ultra-fast HSDPA 3G cellular connectivity and the revamped Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system. It intelligently arranges your conversations by people, not by the application that you use to communicate with them. So when looking at your contacts, you can now see a history of your conversations in whatever form it took place, quickly and easily--even Facebook updates.

Stay connected with friends, business partners and world events wherever you roam with the sleek HTC Tilt 2, which features a slide-out/slide-away touchscreen, full QWERTY keyboard, and Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system.
The Tilt 2's high-resolution 3.6-inch touchscreen slides out to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard--which is optimized for heavy email use--and it can be easily tilted for an expanded viewing area. You'll also enjoy excellent conference calling with the speakerphone's dual speakers, dual microphones and advanced noise cancellation with StraightTalk technology that links email, conference calling. Activate the speakerphone by simply turning over the device and then easily mute the microphone with the separate mute button on the back.

The updated Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system includes a revamped Internet Explorer Mobile web browser and the ability to see alerts even if you're on a call or have password-protected your phone. And with the new Microsoft My Phone and Windows Marketplace for Mobile services (as well as AT&T's Appcenter), you can easily back up your data to the web and download great apps respectively. The HTC Tilt 2 augments Windows Mobile 6.5 with HTC's innovative TouchFLO 3D overlay, which makes it easy to navigate with your finger.

This phone can quickly download video, music and more over AT&T's lightning quick HSPDA 3G network. Additionally, with AT&T's 3G network, you can listen to a conference call on a headset while sending and receiving email attachments, picture messages or Web pages at the same time. This GPS-enabled phone can access the AT&T Navigator service for turn-by-turn directions as well as its Video Share service, which enables you to send video of yourself to another compatible phone while making a voice call. See more details on optional AT&T services below.

Other features include a 3.2-megapixel camera/camcorder, integrated Wi-Fi networking (802.11b/g), Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free devices and stereo music streaming as well as tethering capabilities (with optional AT&T subscription), microSD memory expansion up to 32 GB, and up to 8.5 hours of talk time.

AT&T Services

High-speed data connectivity via AT&T's 3G mobile broadband data network: The dual-band 850/1900 MHz 3G network provides up to 3.6/7.2 Mbps of download speed, making it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless multimedia services, and it gives you the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services. In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go.

The full-featured, premium AT&T Navigator GPS navigation application includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps (additional charges applicable). AT&T Navigator offers several other features to make your commute more enjoyable and reliable, including mobile access to Yellowpages.com. Additionally, AT&T Navigator is the only mobile phone-based GPS service that provides integrated speech recognition for address entry and points of interest search.

AT&T's Video Share service enables you to send a live, one-way video stream to another compatible phone during a standard voice call. The service also allows you to switch the direction of the video stream during the same phone call. (Customers must be in an area served by the company's 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone.) While using Video Share with family and friends is a fun way to communicate, it's also very useful for business. For example, a majority of users in the architecture, engineering and construction industries rated the ability to share live video through Video Share highly, according to research commissioned by AT&T. Video Share lets you see progress on a job site or review the day's work without having to drive from an office or other site to do so.

AT&T Mobile Music enables you to buy tracks while on the go, access the Napster and eMusic subscription music services, stream music video, discover what's playing with Music ID song-recognition software, and find out what's hot with The Buzz music news portal.

5 out of 5 stars Thrilled About the Updated New Rom Just Released!   September 5, 2010
-
I'm glad to have gotten this phone back. You see, I actually returned it and went back to using my plain little phone with no data plan. I didn't need to spend $30/month for required data plan for a smartphone. Shortly thereafter, AT&T offered the 2 different data plans, and I wanted my Tilt back!

I've had it (again) for a month this time. Just a few days ago, HTC released a brand new Rom especially for this phone, and I love it!

HTC Tilt 2 (AT&T) ROM Update 2.10.502.4

Release date: 08-30-2010

The new Rom features:

HTC Sense replaces TouchFlo 3D
Ability to Format the SD Card directly in the device
Inconsistent Caller ID function Hotfix
TILT 2 Freezes in SMS application Hotfix
Phantom SMS/MMS Count Hotfix
Overall improvement in the devices stability/operation
Built-in AT&T WiFi Client
Built-in Vlingo voice app
Improved email & messaging experience
Improved music & calendar experience
Built-in Twitter application
Built in IM client
AOL, MSN, Yahoo
and what the HTC website description failed to mention, a Camcorder icon.

I've also done a few harmless tweaks to enhance the phone and it works beautifully. It is very customizable.

This phone probably has the biggest, and without a doubt loudest speaker of any phone on the market. Speakerphone is loud and clear and so is music played from my SDHC card. Once broken in, battery life is great, and I've had no problem with reception. It is weighty and sturdily built, not like some of the cheapie, feels-like-it'll-fall-apart-any-minute phones on the market.

My one issue is that the Internet seems to turn on by itself, but I may have an incorrect setting. Still, it is a minor issue since when I notice it, I simply turn it back off.

Ironically, AT&T appears to now have discontinued the Tilt 2, so all I can say is get one while you can!

In the first week the phone unexpectedly "locked up". Nothing worked unlocking it. I was on the road so I removed the battery for a few minutes, restarted it aok. A few days later--locked again. I pulled up the ATT on line manual--no help. I called ATT, the first rep was TOTALLY unhelpful not familiar with phone. Hung up and called again-- again totally clueless, but at least gave me the # for HTC support. Called HTC--rep pretended that he never heard of this problem--I told him that removing the battery would reset it, he said go ahead and then told me that his troubleshooting was over, the phone is now working.

The next time it locked I called Amazon they replaced the phone immediately--great service.

Within a few days the new phone locked same exact problem. I was busy so I did the battery trick. Today it locked again called HTC tech support. Absolutely no help suggested ATT would have "unlock code" I told him that 1) ATT does not know that and 2) I cannot input a code into a locked phone He transferred me to "hardware support" he suggested I get a loaner from ATT & send the phone to them for repair.

I am SO glad that I bought the phone thru Amazon. They are going to work with me to replace this with a new model. The rep also told me that this IS a common problem.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best phones I've owned   July 24, 2010

I have been using various HTC phones for a while, starting with the 8125. The best one I had was the 8525, it was a very good phone but it eventually ran out of storage space for everything I wanted to put on it. So I eventually purchased the FUZE, which quickly became one of the worst phones I ever had, poor signal quality and poor battery life. I bought an Xperia which was a bit better than the FUZE for a while, but that was a used phone. After carefully looking over the various new phones that have come out in the last year I eventually settled on the Tilt 2 (I've never had much interest in the iPhone).
This phone gets better signal quality than any other phone I've owned, the interface is quick (maybe a little to qick),and it is overall one of the best phones from HTC that I've ever used.
It has a nice big screen and plenty of storage space, I am very happy with this phone.

3 out of 5 stars Serviceable but annoying   July 20, 2010
Roboberto (New York, NY)
Good:
I got the phone because it's a GSM Quad and I wanted to be able to switch SIM cards overseas.
The keyboard is large, easy, and comfortable for me and my big thumbs.
The email function works pretty well for me.
When I send texts and emails the font is large enough for me to see easily.
The calendar and contact functions interface easily through an add-on program to my mac laptop.

Bad:
The screen responds to touch (or bang, it's pretty resistant) but doesn't have the beautiful iPhone response.
It's supposed to work with a stylus, but trying to work with both a keyboard and a stylus is clumsy.
I lost the stylus the first week and have been making do with thumbnail and fingernail.
The internet browsers are slow and clumsy--the fonts much to small for comfortable use. Then there's that resistant touch screen.
Sometimes other kinds of text are too small to read easily.
There's a touch-responsive zoom slider that's not very responsive.

The latest annoyance: you can't send someone's contact info in a text msg to another phone, unless it happens to be a Windows phone that can open a vCard. You can't copy and paste a phone number from a contact field to a text message. What I have to do when someone texts me for contact information is open the contact, write the info down on a scrap of paper, close the contact and enter the info by hand into a text msg.

This seems really stupid for a so-called smart phone.

But I can't justify spending the money on another phone, since it mostly works.

An update:
Also annoying:
People in the customer support area don't know the product, sent generic reinstall info,
didn't know whether this phone had the copy/paste function I inquired about, decided it didn't.

A redemption:
I figured out through more experimenting that I can copy a field from a contact into a text message this way:
Go to contact, select edit.
Highlight field content.
Open on-screen input panel.
Select control then c keys.

Close contact. Go to text messaging.
In composing text select on-screen input panel.
Select control then v keys.
Content will be pasted.

There's no way to do this from the slide-out keyboard because it doesn't have a control key.

Still pretty dumb. Now if I wanted to copy 2 or 3 fields . . .

1 out of 5 stars unreliable   July 3, 2010

I got the tilt to replace my very unreliable fuze. The phone only lasted less than six months be for the USB went out. Do not bother with HTC. Their phones get worst with every new device
